US Videogame & Console Sales Fall19 Percent in October

NPD

On Thursday, as the industry heads into the most important selling weeks of the year, research group NPD reported that the sales of video games and consoles in the U. S. fell 19% to $1.07 billion in October from the same month last year.

Compared to previous year's record sales of $21 billion, the year-to-date sales were behind by 13 percent at $11.43 billion. At the same time, the October sales of gaming hardware chopped by almost a quarter to $380.7 million.

In addition to the decline in sales of accessory by 2% to $118.9 million, the sales of gaming software declined by18 % to $572.7 million.

"Based on typical industry seasonality, the industry is on track to generate full-year revenues in the range of ($20 billion to $21 billion) in the U. S., which would put it just a bit below last year's sales", said NPD analyst Anita Frazier.

With the prospect to cultivate sales in November, industry analysts foresee a boost in sales during the holiday season, given that the sales of Activision Blizzard Inc.'s "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" earlier this week gathered in an almost $310 million in North America and the United Kingdom alone in 24 hours.

Additionally, games like Ubisoft's "Assassin's Creed 2" and Nintendo's "New Super Mario Bros" likely to hit the market in November, will be a sturdy means of sensation for the industry.

To catch the fancy of the budget conscious shoppers, for the most part, game makers are wounding down on the cost for the initial few months.
