In Victoria, Woolworths have opening 10 new home improvement stores, which are going to generate 1300 new jobs, in the next 1 year. Famous as the fresh food people, are trying to start hardware business, which will propel in direct competition with the other dominating DIY retailer Bunnings.
As per the Woolworths, in Australia the worth of the hardware business is $24 billion. As per Victorian Treasurer John Lenders, the opening of new stores will generate more jobs in Victoria and it will ensure the Victoria’s prominence in nation’s economy.
In addition, it shows Woolworth’s confidence for investing their economy. He further said that although most of the global economy is battling the effects of recession, Victoria’s economy has emerged stronger. He added that the construction of the stores will start in next few weeks and the stores going to open in the second half of the next year.
Micheal Luscombe who is the chief executive of Woolworths said that the approval for the store shows the strong commitment of the Brumby government to grow jobs, infrastructure and increase consumer choice in the area.
