The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) reports that black cats are least likely to be adopted due to superstition on side of potential owners.
Especially in this period of the year, many cats are waiting to be adopted. In the so called “kitten season” the SPCA calls for potential adopters, donations or volunteer workers in order to care for numerous homeless cats. An animal lover and experienced volunteer expresses: “Another great aspect of volunteering at the SPCA, you can pick the days and times that work with your schedule, and the job duties are very flexible”.
In line with Halloween, the SPCA is launching a “special” in order to accelerate adoptions and create space for new arrivals. Reductions for a cat adoption from a usually $95 to a $20 fee should also raise the number of black-colored cats adopted.
The fee for a cat adoption includes a pre-adoption Veterinary check-up that includes for example flea protection, de-worming or vaccines which might usually amount to $250.
The SPCA is dedicated to find as many adopters as possible for pets that have now homes. The Society was founded in 1967 and lives of donations from animal lovers.
