Is Alzheimer’s a new epidemic among the older people? One of the most commonly found dementia forms which attacks people over the age of 65 is Alzheimer’s disease.

The symptoms of Alzheimer’s include a reduction in the capacity to perform daily routine, mood and personality alterations, a decline in the decision-making ability and a huge dependence on others for day to day actions.

Around 5.1 million people in the United States of American suffer from Alzheimer’s disease as per the data released by a report in the year 2007 by the Alzheimer’s Association.

It is said to be the main reason of death in older people after cardiovascular disorders, cancer and cerebrovascular disease. The deaths due to Alzheimer’s could be caused just by function impairment, sudden and severe falls and the development of Parkinsonian signs.

It is also one of the most expensive diseases right behind cardiovascular disease and cancer when it comes to total costs. One of the main reasons for Alzheimer’s is age but apart from that there are several other factors which could lead to this brain disease.

Some more risk factors like female gender, head injury and low educational attainment also seem to increase the chances of Alzheimer’s.
