Kordia is reported to have launched its free wi-fi service. The wi-fi service is claimed to be offered at selected cafes in some of most popular tourist areas in Auckland. The areas include – Newmarket, Ponsonby, Parnell and Viaduct.
Once the 15 minutes are done, customers are able to log back in for another 15-minute session.
Kordia’s metro wi-fi network in Auckland’s CBD involves a range of pre-pay rate packages based on a daily rental of over $9.95 a day for the wi-fi access. The step to develop a free wi-fi in Auckland's CBD highlights its attempt to boost its name.
It is estimated that there were over 3000 paid subscribers for the network on monthly basis, however, Goodman has highlighted that the network has the capability to connect and serve with over 60,000 wi-fi devices.
The total cost of the developing the wi-fi network has touched a few hundred thousand dollars, claimed Goodman. The largest proportion of the cost was diverted towards the hardware, and setting up the infrastructure.
Besides, a part of the cost was killed as paying outs to the owners of buildings on which the antennae is installed.
“If you’re going to build on a large scale across a city, then you need city council support,” he acclaimed.
