The screening for breast cancer was suspended in Cumbria but it is going to be resumed from the next week. The North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust made a declaration this year in July stating that it was closing down the screening to facilitate a major review.
The review resulted in finding out that at least nine women were suffering with breast cancer and had earlier been given an all-clear certificate.
Next week from Monday the screening for women will begin once more for those who have undergone treatment for breast cancer and it was also expected that the complete screening will be conducted till the end of
2010.
1,600 women were involved in the review that had further tests after routine mammograms conducted since the month of April in 2007. The review was carried out on these 1,600 films to several external centers.
The review was decided to be held by the officials of the Trust after it was observed that women who were called for screening a second time showed a very low percentage of cancerous cases which was not what they expected.
