Tourism emerges as the top earner

tourism sectorIn a surprise rebound made by the tourism sector, it has emerged as the biggest exporter earner for the year that ended on 31st March. It is to be mentioned here that it has been learned from the recently released government figures wherein the foreign visitors lifted their spending by $149 million to $9.5 billion.

Statistics New Zealand has recently said that the inflow of Australians gave an advantage to the jump made by the currency. It may be noted here that the dairy exports amounted to over $9 billion during the same period and it stood at the second spot.

Associate Tourism Minister Jonathan Coleman said in a statement that while many of the countries have seen a decline in the tourism activities over the past 18 months but it has been able to break the trend.

Moreover, Coleman also pointed out the fact that as the Rugby World Cup is coming up next year, things are expected to get even better for the coming times. It may be recalled here that the tourism in the economy took a hit last year because of the recession but it has taken no time to make a comeback.
