As has been confirmed by a recent study, which comes as another proof of the rapidly warming planet, record high temperatures across America are happening twice as much as record low temperatures. After studying temperatures for almost a decade, researchers on Thursday reported this significant climate change.
Researchers have asserted that if the climate was not changing, the recorded number of highs and lows would have been on similar lines. Temperature recordings were collected and analyzed for a continuous period from January 1, 2000 to September 20, 2009, and it was noted that there were 291,237 record highs in America, as opposed to 142,420 record lows.
"Climate change is making itself felt in terms of day-to-day weather in the United States", said Gerald Meehl, the study's lead researcher, who also shared that a similar study was recently done in Australia and the results were more-or-less the same, signifying that the whole world is noticing rising temperatures.
The study was jointly carried out by scientists from the National Center for Atmospheric Research, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Weather Channel. Details of the same have been published in Geophysical Research Letters.
