November 15 marked the official launch of the Palm's new smartphone Pixi, which the Palm spokesperson Jon Zilber described as "sleek smartphone" and an "incredibly sexy" piece of hardware!
Launched by Sprint, the entry-level Pixi, following its predecessor Pre, is powered by webOS and enables the users to visit non-mobile websites, with full scrolling and zooming capabilities.
Nearly 6 mm thinner and 1.5 oz lighter than its predecessor, the WiFi-less Palm Pixi, is priced at $100, after a $50 instant rebate and a $100 mail-in rebate. It features a 2.6-inch multi-touch display; a QWERTY keyboard, an integrated 2-megapixel camera with LED flash; 3G; dual-band CDMA2000; Bluetooth 2.1; and headphone jack.
Capable of concurrent running multiple applications, the Pixi not only offers combined messaging, linked contacts, and layered calendars, but also provides the users with an easy access to the Palm App store.
Pitching for the new Palm offering in an official blog post, Zilber said: "Is it the phone designed to communicate on your terms: instantly, intuitively, and personally, or the phone you can customize to make it personal? It's all of the above, of course."
Noting that the Pixi "is the newest webOS phone," Zilber added that the smartphone comes with "features like Palm Synergy, an exposed keyboard and a vivid multitouch screen, along with compatibility with Touchstone connectionless charging."
