There have been many a strange happenings or mis-happenings around the wool industry and there is a latest one that has been added to the list. The sheep farmers are buying out their own wool from the co-operative and then sell it to carpet and textile manufacturers across the world.
This has come as an attractive solution for the stakeholders who have been demanding more control over the industry supply. This has happened since the return on wool has been shrinking.
Strong wool which is found in vast majority across New Zealand is lesser known and accepted in the market as compared to the South Island merinos fine wool. The fine wool is used for the clothing industry and is a success story altogether.
Price of coarse wool has been going down steadily for almost a decade and has not been able to meet the cost of shearing wool also. But in the last few months, the price of the wool has been going up and has touched its highest in last 20 years.
Looking at this, the farmers are now using their wool and trying hard to make more money till the sun shines.
