Scientists have achieved another marvel in their laboratories by creating tiny version of a human liver in the lab by using the stem cells. This achievement has raised hopes for new transplant livers which could be made. However, scientists said that making this possible would still take several years.
The findings of this achievement were presented by a team from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center at a Boston Conference.
Scientists from Britain said that this was an ‘exciting achievement’ for science but the task of developing a full liver with all its functions is not yet confirmed to be possible.
The number of livers available for transplant is never enough to meet the rising demand for the organ and scientists have always concentrated their research on several ways to use the technology of the cell to back the failing organs in the body or even transplant them completely.
The stem cell was again the source of this major development which is capable of dividing into different body types when kept under certain conditions.
