AMD Finalized Radeon HD 5970 Specifications, Due for Release on November 18

AMD has finalized specification for its upcoming and much eagerly awaited Radeon HD 5970, a dual-GPU graphics card that is said to be a significant improvement over the current range of cards available. Due for release on November 18, the card is speculated to be the fastest one around. Equipped with 3200 Stream processors, 2 RV870 GPUs, 40 SIMD units, 160 TMU an 64 ROP, the card for first christened the Radeon HD 5870 x2.

The GPUs have been clocked at 725MHz, and "coupled with 1GB of GDDR5 memory, per GPU, for a total of 2GB of memory, clocked at 4000MHz", as has been specified by a recent technology magazine. The card also boasts a maximum board power of 294W, with the performance capability to hit 4.64TFLOPs of GPU compute. All the aforementioned specifications have come together to enable the card to deliver exceptional performance.

The card is expected to come with a price tag of US $599. Experts are of the opinion that it has the potential to overtake the Geforce GTX 295, which has ruled the market for nearly 10 months now.
