Several thousand dental patients are now looking forward to hospital treatment to get their teeth fixed after being unable to find any NHS dentists.
As per the official data examined by the Daily Mail, the number of emergency admissions has increased by almost 40 percent in the previous ten years.
The year 2009/2010 recorded around 24,292 patients getting treatment in casualty as compared to just 17,400 in the year 2000/2001. Some patients were so desperate with pain that they tried to pull out their own teeth following which they were admitted to the hospital.
Health secretary Andrew Lansley said, "While some emergency admissions are to be expected, the sheer level of increase suggests that fewer people are getting the dental care that they need. These figures provide more evidence that the previous Labor government failed to improve access to NHS dentistry."
Recent figures indicate that almost one million dental patients don't have access to a NHS dentist anymore which has lead to a steep rise in the number of hospital admissions due to dental problems.
