As per the findings of a recent study it was found that several men suffering from cancer who are being treated for their condition don’t get enough opportunity to bank their sperm.
Drugs used for chemotherapy could lead to fertility problems after the treatment in both the sexes which is why patients should be informed about the option to get their eggs and sperms stored before starting the treatment for cancer.
“These findings are very concerning and show that doctors in the UK aren't following sperm banking guidance, meaning many men are missing the opportunity to store their sperm for the future”, said Dr Ann Adams from Warwick Medical School who is also the author of this study.
Another institute which said that men and adolescent boys should be given the chance to get their sperms stored before any cancer treatment is started is the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).
A questionnaire was sent across to oncologists and hematologists in UK to seek their advice for male cancer patients.
