Winnipeg officials announce the publication of information on health care incidents that happened in hospitals over the past 4 years.
They report an increase of unexpected deaths and general cases in which patients got harmed. Nevertheless, the increase might be connected to the more careful, in-depth investigations that are due to a mandatory reporting system.
The province declares to quarterly release critical incidents that happen in hospitals to the wider public in order to scrutinize the care system and protect patients, starting next year.
Nevertheless, privacy laws of patients and hospital staff will be respected, as no specific reports on exact authorities or patients will be published.
Health Minister of Manitoba, Theresa Oswald, states: "Getting down at this point to, it's this hospital, and it's this doctor, on this floor, that you need to be very very careful of. We'd might as well fold up the tent and go home right now because that is exactly what caused doctors and nurses and other people in the system to sweep errors under the carpet".
The majority of questionable incidents and potential violations in health care are occurring in personal or acute care situations in which the patient is very dependent on care personnel.
