The NSW Nurses Association (NSWNA) informed that its members who are campaigning for significant improvements of the NSW public health system have now decided to raise a protest at the Liverpool Hospital in Sydney in the middle of rolling rallies in the entire state.
The NSWNA also said that nurses at the hospital will take out a rally during lunch hours this week on Wednesday making demands on minimum nurse-to-patient ratios for improving the quality and safety of patient care.
Brett Holmes, NSWNA general secretary has said that public hospital and community healthcare nurses have supported the reform which will be the largest overhaul of the system in several years if it is executed properly.
The association says that the shortage of nurses and poor skill mix is the reason behind hampering the public health system for very long which has put patients at risk.
They are now demanding a ratio of one to four between patients and nurses at most of the metropolitan hospitals which will be included in the new award following the expiry of the previous one on June 30th this year.
