In order to improve funding for ambulance services of the country, the National Ambulance Sector Office (NASO) has asked people to submit some recommendations. At the current point of time, the ambulance service of the country is funded by the Ministry of Health and the ACC.
The Ministry of Health happens to pay the bulk of funds, while the ACC pays for ambulance services on a fee-for-service basis.
Talking about the request for submissions, the Group Manager for NASO, Carol Clayton has stated that it was hoping that people send in ideas on how funding can be increased and not send in the amount that has to be increased for funding. Ms. Clayton also felt that a consistent funding by the Ministry of Health and ACC would help resolve a lot of problems related to funding.
The submissions are open till the 15th of December, 5pm in the evening. The information related to the consultation document would be available on the website www. naso. govt. nz. The New Zealand Ambulance Service Strategy is currently contemplating to develop a model for funding, which is transparent and has been approved by the Ministry of Health and the Associate Minister for ACC.
The Government is currently shelling out $148million on an annual basis in relation to the funding for the ambulance services. If a more efficient way is found for the funding, ambulance services would see a drastic improvement in the country.
