As per the findings of a recent study alcohol was found to be much more harmful as compared to illegal drugs like crack cocaine, heroin and even ecstasy.
Researchers observed the harmful effects caused to individuals and the society as a whole from alcohol being the most harmful substance. The study was conducted by the Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs (ISCD).
The findings have been shocking to everyone because for all ages to come it has been believed that drugs like heroin and cocaine are much more harmful than any other form of drugs.
The authors claim that they demonstrate “the present drug classification systems have little relation to the evidence of harm. They also accord with the conclusions of previous expert reports that aggressively targeting alcohol... is a valid and necessary public health strategy.”
Experts on drugs in the committee found out their own system to judge things and believe that their consensus gives a very significant assessment which could guide policymakers. These substances were given a mark on a scale of 0 to 100 on some criteria with alcohol getting 72 out of 100 after 55 for heroin and 54 for crack.
