Microsoft's new Kinect game controller for Xbox 360 console has hit stores across the US today, November 4.
There was a high demand for new gaming controller as customers from across the country picked up these controllers from stores as it went on sale on Thursday. The new controller is capable of tracking a players full body movements along with voices and faces and translated them into actions on the screen.
Microsoft and parent retailer, Best Buy are trying hard to meet the demand for the controller. Microsoft earlier had to raise estimates for Kinect sales this year from 3 million to 5 million because of higher than expected pre order volumes.
Other retailer, Amazon.com and GameStop.com also experienced high demand and were sold out for the controller. They only had stocks for the Xbox 360 systems packaged which includes the new controller.
Target said that it sold out both Kinect sensor and the 250-gigabyte Xbox 360-Kinect bundle through its online store. Walmart.com also expects high demand for the controller and said that it will restock through the whole season.
Kinect will compete with gesture-based Nintendo Wii, which has sold more than 30 million units in the U.S and also PlayStation Move motion control system, launched on September 19 by Sony Computer Entertainment America.
Kinect game controller for Xbox 360 console is priced at $150 in the US.
