Crisis at Coffs Harbour hospital Emergency Department

Crisis at Coffs Harbour hospital Emergency DepartmentThe condition at the local base hospital's Emergency Department (ED) has reached a crisis point as per a statement by Coffs Harbour MP Andrew Fraser.

His statement is based on several complaints that he received in the last few weeks regarding the waiting hours at the hospital which go up to almost seven hours, from people.

As per Mr Fraser the main reason for the problem is that Coffs Harbour has failed to get a fair amount from the region's health dollars.

He said, "I think it's lip service being paid to the Coffs Harbour Health Campus not only by the North Coast Area Health Service but by the State and Federal governments. It is at crisis point at the moment, people have had enough, doctors have had enough, staff there have had enough, I've had enough."

Some people with serious injuries have waited up to eight hours for their turn to get treatment from the ED. One woman who was bleeding and vomiting eventually left the hospital without getting any treatment after she waited for her turn for several hours.
