According to an announcement made by the airline carrier, Qantas would like to keep its fleet of A380 superjumbos grounded for at least 72 more hours.
It is to be mentioned here that the time will be utilized to make more investigations on the engine failure incident that took place last week. Alan Joyce, CEO, Qantas said that the carrier will not be returning its A380 fleet to the normal service and will make a comeback only after the issues have been identified and resolved.
Moreover, the chief also mentioned the fact that at this hour company does not expect the fleet to comeback into operations before the next 72 hours. The company has close to six A380s which it got in 2007 and fleet has not been in operation since Thursday i. e. soon after the incident of the explosion of one of the aircraft’s four Trent 900 Rolls Royce engines.
Experts are of a view that it is still very early for the industry to judge the cost of the damage to the airline and the engineering team is still performing engine tests for the same.
