Workers to picket the company for pay riseIn a major event that it expected to take place in the domestic market, it is expected that close to 100 workers will picket a Porirua packaging company in pursuit of a pay rise. It has been learned that the workers at Cryovac Sealed Air Ltd will soon picket the company's Porirua factory at midday with a view to get the pay rise.

It is to be mentioned here that the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union (EPMU) organiser Mark James has confirmed the move.

Moreover, the workers have recently casted their unanimous votes to reach the decision of strike after the pay talks with the company reached an impasse. James also said that the company has refused to accept an offer that has more than 2% of the pay rise for the next 12 months for the workers of the company.

However, a Cryovac spokesman was completely unaware of the picket and said that the pay negotiations with the workers were resuming on Thursday.

The spokesperson of the company also said that the union members will be withdrawing their strike action tomorrow.
