Nicola Roxon shelves diabetes reform plan for $450 millionThe controversial reform plan has been shelved for diabetes by the federal government which was compiled for permitting patients to sign up with a ‘home’ GP practice to continue care from mid of the year 2012.

The health minister Nicola Roxon has expressed her views only four months ago that it would be very silly to not support the $450 million reform plan just on the basis of some opposition from physicians.

However, Roxon chose to do exactly that this week on Friday when she said that the government had decided to ‘pilot’ the reform for almost 3-4 years before it implements it on a national level.

Roxon said, "To allow for the pilot, the government will defer the full roll-out of coordinated care for diabetes until after its results are known. As a government we are always prepared to listen and respond to views put by the community."

Many doctors have expressed their disapproval towards this reform on the basis that this plan will prevent patients of Medicare entitlements and also interfere with the relationship shared by doctors with patients.
