A new study has revealed that though the overweight children consume more fruit, vegetables, fish, cheese and yogurt in comparison to the normal weight children but their less physical activeness contribute in their excess pounds.
The study was carried out by the researchers from Telemark University College and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH). The findings are based on the analysis of eating and obesity habits of 924 children studying in fourth grade with ages 9-10. The participants were asked about their eating patterns and the variety of foods they eat. Also, their heights and weights were evaluated, along with the assessment of their parents’ weight, education and occupation.
Anne Lise Brantsæter at the NIPH said, "It is positive that parents and children emphasize healthy food choices. However, it is important to note that the amount of healthy foods must be adapted to a child's activity level to limit further weight gain”.
The researchers found that the overweight children consumed more fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods, in comparison to their counterparts with normal weight. But, they were indulged into physical activity than the normal weight children, this was the reason they were gaining extra pounds.
Obesity is a curse that inflicts both physical and mental problems. It is thus, essential that there should be proper guidance to the parents and children to follow healthy living.
