As per the report of a cancer researcher if a pregnant woman who has breast cancer is detected with cancer-susceptible genes then they should be given the option of aborting in case the fetus is detected to be also carrying the same genes.
This suggestion was made by Lee Wen-hwa of Academia Sinica which is the highest academic research institute of Taiwan, when he was presenting his research findings on two of the breast cancer susceptibility genes known as BRCA1 and BRCA2.
The presentation was made during an event to celebrate the 15th founding anniversary of the Taiwan Breast Cancer Foundation. Lee also said that people who have one parent carrying one of the mutant genes have just a 50 percent risk if getting the same genes at birth.
His team of researchers also said that when the BRCA1 gene is passed on to a daughter then the risk of occurrence of breast cancer before 60 is almost 60 percent and before 70 the risk is as high as 90 percent.
