Chairman of the Ghana AIDS Network (GHANET), Mr Samuel A. Amaning observed that the top two issues surrounding their efforts and struggle against the deadly HIV/AIDS in the world are stigma and discrimination.
As a result he made an appeal to everyone in the world to stop treating people with HIV/AIDS with stigma and discrimination and instead show them acceptance and offer care and support so that they are able to deal with this disease better and spread awareness more effectively.
Akyem Oda was speaking at a workshop on HIV/AIDS during the weekend where he pointed out that when people are affected with this deadly disease and are stigmatized and discriminated against then we are actually encouraging them to hide this condition and carry on infecting more and more people.
In an appeal he requested everyone to go an attend voluntary counseling and testing to find out the status of one's HIV/AIDS explaining that finding out your HIV/AIDS status has far more advantages than disadvantages because there are many retro-viral drugs available for those who could test positive.
