Though autism happens to be a condition which affects children, the way the condition is taken care of is definitely not the best. While talking about the treatments available for autism, Professor Jeff Sigafoos from the Faculty of Education, Victoria University raises fears that the treatments might be affecting the health of children.
He stated that children were likely to suffer a lot from autism as the treatments being provided to autistic children were not evidence-based.
He adds that autism treatment is very controversial as evidence used to provide children with treatment is half baked, and not completely true. He also feels that treatments being provided to children were ineffective and were still unproven, hence could cause harm to children as well.
According to the statistics available, autism happens to affect one in every 150 children, with a majority of the children being affected by the condition not being able to speak properly and also face adversities in communicating with others. Around 50% children suffering from autism are known to have impaired speech.
In a survey conducted by Prof' Sigafoos, he found that out of the 552 parents he surveyed, 108 different treatments were being used, which is a startling number and obviously points out to the lack of a proper solution for the condition.
